Cairo

How I Got There

My flights were Dublin-London-Frankfurt-cairo with Lufthansa, a big delay in London meant I missed my connection in Frankfurt,
I then was put on an Egypt Air Flight from Frankfurt-Munich-Cairo arriving around midnight. An awaiting taxi arranged through my
hotel took me into the city center for 40 EP. If your fond of rollercoasters or any sort of high adrenaline sports then I am sure you
will enjoy any white knuckle journey on Egyptian road :-)

Where I stayed

 New Sun Hotel,
 2 Talaat Harb St.,
 9th Floor
 Tel. 578 17 86

Price 40 pound per night for a basic single room. Shower available in shared bathrooms. Includes breakfast with rolls tea
 and boiled egg.

A good alternative is the close-by

 Magic Hotel,

Both Hotels will organise taxis for tours you may want to do.

Getting Around

The Metro is incredibly cheap to use at 75 piastres for a single trip and is efficient and useful for city center travel e.g. coptic cairo,
 train station.
If you can figure out the Microbuses they are a really good way of mixing with normal egyptians, a typical ride costs just 25 piastres.
Taxis are useful for the airport, Islamic Cairo and the Citadel, just be ready to bargain hard and don't be afraid to walk away.

Somewhere to eat

The Felfela Restaurant comes recommended in the guidebooks and is very close to the accomodations recommended above.
It is not fantastic but its is clean and safe to eat there and a nice place to relax after a busy day in Cairo. There is also a nice Felfela
takeway restaurant around the corner from this which is a handy place for a snack, no seats here. Again I ate here a muber of times
and my stomach had no complaints.
If you want McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC they are all fairly closeby just off Midan Tahrir, check your guidebook.
