Petra

How I got there

I left Dahab at 10:00 on a Penguin Camp organised microbus and headed up the coast to Taba, the trip E£50(~2hrs). It dropped us at the border, I paid E£2 exit tax then queued to get through Egyptian exit security. Then walked out across a no mans land area and into the high security Israeli custom inspections. They swabbed my bags for plastic explosive and asked some questions then I was out into Israel. I waited for the Number 15 bus to take me to Eilat town center. I forgot to put my watch forward an hour!! The bus cost 6.40 NIS. In Eilat I got a taxi to the Arava border crossing this cost me 25NIS. I had to pay a further 18NIS as exit tax from Israel. Once out on the Jordan side of the border I got a taxi for 5JD to the bus station Aqaba. Because of the time difference I had missed the last bus to Wadi Musa (Petra). I then got on a bus for Ma'ann. This cost just 1JD and for the trip I had to listen to very loud wailing over the speaker system. It must have been some prayers but everyone on the bus was asleep!! In Ma'ann I got a taxi to Wadi Musa, which cost 5JD. In Wadi Musa I stayed at the Valentine Inn where I met Esther and Rob from Amsterdam and Adonis from Greece.

Where I Stayed

         Valentine Inn,

Price 15JD for nice ensuite room. This was a bit expensive compared to my other accomodation. Dorm accomodation is
also available here. It includes a free bus down to Petra in the morning and back in the evening. They also lay on an all you
can eat buffet in the evening which is pretty good and costs 2JD. They also play videos there in the evening. Most popular
being Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, everyone wants to see Petra at the end of it.

Other Information

A 2-day ticket to Petra costs 7.25JD for a student.
